Gerrit Adriaensz Berckheyde was 17th century painter who was active in Haarlem, Amsterdam and The Hague. His main subject for his painting are cityscapes. this painting is from the city hall in Haarlem. The building was orginally build in 1370 and several peices were added to the complex through the years. Today, the building is almost the same as on the painting. This painting was done in 1671.
