Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres: Portrait of Joséphine-Eléonore-Marie-Pauline de Galard de Brassace de Béarn, princesse de Broglie (1852)

(The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA)

This is the probably last female portrait that Ingres did. The person on the painting is Joséphine-Eléonore-Marie-Pauline de Galard de Brassace de Béarn, the wife of Jacques-Victor-Albert, 4th duc de Broglie. Joséphine is portrayed in an almost classic style beauty and the fabric of her dress is very well done. Joséphine died of consumption (=Tuberculosis) at the age of thirty-five in 1860, much morned by her husband who kept this portrait behind draperies after her death. This painting is from 1852.
