Hans Memling: Young Woman with a Pink & Two horses in a landscape (1485-1490)

These two paintings (now separate) from a set. The left painting shows a woman who is holding a flower. This flowers is a symbol of betrothal or marriage. She is looking to the right panel which shows two horses and a monkey - symbols for the man in love and the opposing attributes of lust and faithfulness. Together the set represents the virtues of true love and the obstacles it must overcome. Painting from 1485–1490.
