Pieter Bruegel the Elder: The Peasant Dance (1568)

(Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria)

A painting by the Dutch master Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525/30-1569). The setting is a village in which a group of people are dancing and drinking with somebody playing on a bagpipe. As most of the painting of Bruegel are moralistic it is likely that this one has a moral sense. There are several religious images present on the painting (the flag haning outside the building, on the right a small pciture of the virgin Mary in the tree and the chruch in the background) but nobody is paying attention to them - they are more interested in material rather than spiritual matters. Painting from 1568.
