Tsutsumi Tôrin III: Two Imperial Portraits (1790-1830)

A set of 2 paintings by the Japanese artist Tsutsumi Tôrin III (1743-1830?). The man on the left is wearing a so-called 'Sokutai', an attire which was worn by, the nobility, members of the imperial court and the emperor. On his head he is wearing a 'kanmuri' hat and inn his hand a ritual baton called a 'Shaku'. The woman is wearing a 'Jūnihitoe' (12-layered robe) which was worn by the female members of the court. Paintings from 1790-1830.
