Salomon Mesdach: Portrait of Jacob Pergens & Anna Boudaen Courten (1619)

A set of paintings created by the Dutch artist Salomon Mesdach (1600- after 1632) which was created to celebrate the marriage of this couple on 15 july 1619. On the left is Jacob Pergens (...-1681), lord of Vosbergen, brother-in-law of the Dutch historian, poet and playwright Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft, merchant from Amsterdam and member of the board-of-directors of the Dutch West India Company (in Dutch 'de Westindische Compagnie', or the W.I.C.). Jacob Pergens married in 1619 with Anna Boudaen Courten (1599-1622), the woman on the right, but Anna died in 1621 after a marriage of only 2 years (the couple didn't have any children). Jacob remarried twice after this - with Marie de Wael and later on 22 june 1640 with Léonora Bartolotti with whom he got 6 children (5 girls and 1 boy). Painting from 1619.
