George Hendrik Breitner: The Yellow Riders (1885 - 1886)

A painting by the Dutch artist George Hendrik Breitner (1857-1923). The soldiers on this painting are members of the Dutch Horse Artillery Corps, better known as 'the Yellow riders' because of their hussar uniform. This unit was founded in 1793 by the 'Staten-Generaal of the Netherlands' (the government of the Netherlands) on initiative of the Dutch stadtholder prince William V of Orange and exists today as a part of the Dutch 'Fire Support Command'. painting from 1885-1886.
