Juan Cordero: Portrait of Doña Dolores Tosta de Santa Anna (1855)

A painting by the Mexican artist Juan Cordero (1822-1884). The depicted woman is the 28 year old María de los Dolores de Tosta (1827-1886), the second wife of the Mexican politician and general Antonio López de Santa Anna (1794 – 1876). The couple married in 1844 when Santa Anna was 50 and Doña 16 but the couple rarely saw each other and together they got no children. When Santa Anna resigned the Mexican presidency on August 12, 1855, Doña Dolores followed him to Colombia. Painting from 1855.
