attributed to Hans Kamensetzer: The birth of Christ (1470)

(Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)

A woodcarving attributed to the German artist Hans Kamensetzer (active 1470-1487). This group is made from hardwood (walnut or lime wood) and still has its original colors. The piece shows Mary, Joseph, three angels and 2 shepherds gathered around Christ. For me it is unknown if this group used to be a part of a larger piece, perhaps an altarpiece. Woodcarving from around 1470
