Anonymous: Portrait of Margareta Grip (1612-1624)

A painting by a unknown 17th century Swedish artist. This lady is Margareta Mauritzdotter Grip (1586 - 1624), daughter of Moritz Birgersson Grip and Edla Lewenhaupt and the first wife of Herman Wrangel who was a Swedish field marshal and politician of Baltic German. The couple married in 1612 and got at least two children, the most well known being Carl Gustaf Wrangel (a Swedish field marshal, commander-in-chief and politician). She is wearing a wheel farthingale and framing jeweled headdress. Her last name translates as griffon which is also in her neckline ruff. Painting from around 1612-1624.
