Pierre-Auguste Renoir: Luncheon of the Boating Party (1880-1881)

(The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC, USA)

A painting by the French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919). A group of men and women are relaxing on a balcony. The location is the Maison Fournaise restaurant along the Seine river in Chatou, a favorite of Renoir. The depicted men and women are friends of Renoir, models, two children of the restaurant's owner, art collectors, patrons and Renoir's future wife (Aline Charigot, she is sitting in the left corner). The painting was well received at its time. Painting from 1880-1881.
